Bubbsi baby skincare review

Bubbsi is a natural baby skincare line dedicated to creating clean skincare that works with a dash of fun. The adorable animal shaped bottles stand out among the “serious” clean skincare landscape. The line was developed by a mom of two named Sweta Doshi after her daughter developed Eczema.

She searched for something natural and clean that actually worked, and she was disappointed with everything she tried. So she set out to create something herself. She turned to coconut oil as the base ingredient for the line. What she developed was a delightful line of clean baby skincare that moisturizes effectively known as Bubbsi.

Key Benefits of Coconut Oil for Skin

So you may be wondering why Bubbsi’s creator chose coconut oil as a core ingredient for all of their products. Coconut oil is a beloved skincare ingredient for many reasons. It has a number of key benefits for skin that have been demonstrated in scientific studies.

Firstly, coconut oil has antimicrobial properties. Which means it can kill off harmful microorganisms and protect against them. This is important as many skin infections, such as acne, are actually caused by microorganisms.

Secondly, coconut oil is known to moisturize dry skin. It has been shown to hydrate skin effectively and help with Eczema and dermatitis. This study showed that coconut oil was significantly more effective at treating children’s Eczema than mineral oil.

Lastly, coconut oil has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. This means it is great for soothing irritated and inflamed skin. All of these factors combined make coconut oil an excellent choice as an ingredient for baby skincare products.

Bubbsi Skincare Product line

The Bubbsi line is currently comprised of four main products: a shampoo & body wash, a coconut oil hair conditioner, a whipped body cream, and a coconut oil balm. Organic cold-pressed Coconut Oil is a key ingredient in all four products. All are designed to be natural and deeply moisturizing without being greasy. Overall, their products are great choices to try for babies with eczema, cradle cap or diaper rash. Here’s more detailed information on each of the Bubbsi products:

Whipped coconut oil body cream

Bubbsi Body Cream

This is the first product that the rest of the line was developed around. It’s a great every day moisturizer to use after baths or when getting dressed. It’s a velvety cream made out of whipped coconut oil, shea butter and Vitamin E that absorbs quickly into the skin. It has a great light scent, and I’ve found it clears up dry red skin within a few uses. I’ve even stolen some of it to use on my heels during the winter. It retails at $22 for 8 oz, and refills are available for purchase.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water)*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil**, Glycerin*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Coco Caprylate/Caprate*, Behenyl Alcohol*, Glyceryl Stearate*, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate*, Fragrance*, 1,2 Hexanediol*, Caprylyl Glycol*, Sclerotium Gum*, Tocopheryl Acetate*, Polysorbate 60*, Sorbitan Isostearate*, Sodium Hydroxide

Creamy coconut oil shampoo + wash

Bubbsi Shampoo and Wash

Made for cleaning up your little piggies, this creamy shampoo and body wash is an all-in-one solution. Free from sulfates and non-irritating for eyes, this shampoo and body wash cleans and moisturizes all in one. This is my personal favorite of the group.

The shampoo is lightly scented with coconut and vanilla. The bottle is also a cute little pig that kids love to play with in the bath. It costs $20 for an 8 oz package, and refills are available for purchase.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water)*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil**, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Fragrance*, Xanthan Gum*, 1,2- Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil

Creamy coconut oil hair conditioner

Bubbsi Hair Conditioner

The Bubbsi hair conditioner is made with Coconut Oil and shea butter. It’s made to moisturize those little locks without weighing them down or leaving them greasy. In addition, it’s also non-irritating for eyes or the scalp. Overall, this conditioner will help to detangle, tame frizz, soften and add shine to your little one’s hair. The hair conditioner costs $22 for 8 oz and is also refillable. I actually wasn’t able to get my hands on this one just yet, so looking forward to testing this one out when it’s back in stock.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water / Eau)*, Behentrimonium Chloride*, Cetearyl Alcohol*, Cetyl Alcohol*, Glycerin*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil)**, Benzyl Alcohol*, Polyquaternium-37, Isopropyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate*, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate*, Fragrance*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Dehydroacetic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate*, Tetrasodium EDTA.

Coconut oil balm

Bubbsi Coconut Oil Balm

This Bubbsi coconut oil balm was designed for tackling rough dry skin patches. It spreads on easily to create a thick protective waterproof barrier on the skin. I’ve found that it makes a fantastic diaper rash cream or salve for chapped skin or lips. Additionally, it also works really well on cradle cap. By and large, I’ve found this to be a great clean replacement for Vaseline. During the winter or if your child has really dry skin, you can even squirt some of this into their bath. Letting them soak in a little bit of this balm goes the extra mile to fight against dry skin. The balm retails for $26 and is refillable like all of the Bubbsi products.

Ingredients:  Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil**, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate*, Hydrogenated Coconut Oil*, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax*, Glyceryl Behenate*, Fragrance*, Aqua (Water)*, Tocopherol*

My Honest review – Does Bubbsi actually work and is it worth the cost?

We tested out the whipped coconut oil body cream, the shampoo and body wash and the coconut oil balm. I wasn’t sent these products, I purchased with my own money directly from Bubbsi.

I love all three, but I have to say I was most impressed by the shampoo and body wash. I’ve purchased a lot of products for dry skin over the years. My kids both have dry sensitive skin and my son has Eczema. However, usually I’ve found the body washes useless in terms of moisturizing. Since they don’t stay on the skin that long, I just worried about finding one that is non-irritating and cleansing.

The Bubbsi coconut oil shampoo and wash set the bar so much higher. It not only cleanses without irritating the skin, but it truly moisturizes. I could tell a difference after the first bath I gave my kids. It’s much thicker than other washes, and it doesn’t really lather up. However, it left my kids’ skin soft and smooth even after just one bath. I could go on and on about it. The lotion and balm are also fantastic. Coupled together, all 3 make an incredible trio.

The conclusion — we absolutely love Bubbsi in our household. Not only for the deeply moisturizing nature of the products, but also for the adorable reusable bottles. My son loves to play with the little piggie in the tub and the puppy on his dresser while I change him. The first time I pulled them out of the packaging, he squealed with delight and grabbed them all up. He loves how they squish and will ask for the puppy or piggie bottles anytime they’re in his sight. Here’s some photo evidence of his absolute joy playing with the bottles.

The Bubbsi Skincare products all also smell amazing to boot. Not too strong, just a subtle scent of coconut. I’ve found their products to be fairly comparable in performance to my all-time favorite skincare product – Tubby Todd – at a slightly lower cost.

Overall, you can really tell that the Bubbsi line was thoughtfully designed. The products all complement each other and have prevented any new Eczema flare-ups with my son since we first started using them.

I appreciate the incorporation of coconut oil throughout all of the products. I actually used to keep a jar of coconut oil to use in my bathroom for myself or the kiddos. The problem is that straight coconut oil is super greasy and slides off the skin as it melts. These products provide all the benefits of coconut oil (plus other natural ingredients) in a way that works much better than straight oil. They deliver the oil so that it absorbs directly into the skin.

Finally, I love that refill packs can be purchased to reduce plastic waste. The silicone containers are adorable, so it’s great that we get to continue to use them without any guilt.

Pros

  • Adorable animal containers
  • Refillable containers to reduce waste
  • Easy-squeezy Silicone bottle design allows you to extract every last drop of the product
  • Deeply moisturizing
  • Non-greasy
  • Clean, natural ingredients
  • Free from common allergens

Cons

  • More expensive than some other alternatives
  • Not available in local stores

In conclusion, I’d highly recommend giving Bubbsi a try. I really don’t think you will be disappointed. If you are going to try out Bubbsi, it’s a bit more cost effective to try out one of their starter pack bundles. I started out with the newborn starter set and was very happy with it.
