    Monthly Update – March 2018

It seems like 2018 is really flying by, and it almost feels like I am in a completely new life from where I started it. I feel refreshed and ready to tackle so much more than I did coming into the year. While I loved certain aspects of my old job, it’s refreshing to have a completely new challenge! The stress has been lifted and my work-life balance is perfect. I hope it stays this way for a little while. So what have when been up to this month? Well I picked back up on my blogging after a hiatus…I even wrote the post I had been wanting to since…

My First Labor & Delivery Story: Parker’s Birth Story

So I’ve been wanting to write this post for quite awhile now. Birth stories are actually the reason I was inspired to start writing a mama blog. You see, back when I was pregnant with Parker I was so fearful of what giving birth would be like…just afraid of the unknown and being out of control…that I scoured the internet reading ALL THE blogs and watching vlog after vlog to hear what other people’s experiences were like. Again, type A here, so even when I knew I couldn’t control everything that would happen, I at least wanted as much knowledge going in as possible. However, it’s evident after all that…

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with friends, family and great food. So avoid the crowds and the stress by using this handy guide for all the little ones on your list. Here are some of my favorite gifts this season for the younger crowd no matter what your budget is: $10 and under: This set of B. Funkeys Lights & Sounds Toy Keys for Kids. Reflections on the Shooting in Las Vegas | Words from a Mama

This post is definitely outside of my norm, but it would feel inauthentic to not address the dark cloud over this week. First and foremost, to all those affected by the senseless tragedy that happened this week in Las Vegas, I am deeply sorry that this happened to you. I cannot imagine what you and your families are going through, and my heart goes out to you. When I woke up and heard this news on Monday morning, I was shocked and sick to my stomach…I didn’t understand how this can happen again and again. Quite frankly, the most terrifying thing is that we all live in the world where…

Parker: 15 Month Update – Words from a Mama

The last 3 months since Parker’s first birthday have absolutely flown by, and I have to say that I really have loved this age. She’s generally very happy and getting things done with her is easier than it was before since she is more tolerant of interruptions to her usual routine. It’s been amazing to see her develop, and I can tell a huge difference in how attentive she is to the world around her and how much she is soaking in. It’s crazy to me when she mimics behaviors that you have no idea she was observing. Like putting on our shoes and walking around, or copying the way…

    Awkward and Awesome: September Roundup

I’ve seen a lot of other bloggers do ‘Awkward and Awesome’ Thursdays, but I figured I would give it a shot as a monthly round-up for my first pass at it. What I really love about these types of posts is that they force bloggers to not always put their best foot forward. You get a more realistic view of what life (or motherhood) is really like without being overly pessimistic or only focusing on the negative. So let’s give this a shot! I am generally incredibly talented at creating awkward moments, so that part should be really easy for me. Awkward: -Parker FaceTiming a work colleague. Whoops. She loves…

    Another Year Passed

With another birthday looming at the end of this week, I can’t help but reflect on the many ways my life has changed over the last year. Looking back to a year ago when I had an 8 week old, even with everything that had already changed so dramatically, I had no idea of what else was to come. I was listening to a podcast recently about time, and the relative nature of it…how we think that at whatever point in time we are at the moment, we are the real person we are; we believe that we have mostly grown and changed as much as we can….but that is…

What it is really like being a Working Mom

I have to admit that before I gave birth to Parker, it never occurred to me that I would not want to go back to work. I had worked for years for my education and then years more advancing up the career ladder; my career was a huge part of how I defined myself as a person. However, after actually giving birth, during my maternity leave, I felt completely torn. My family needed my income financially, but I loathed the idea of leaving that sweet little bundle of joy all day to work. I have to say for those of you out there who have not had your first child yet, it may…

Nursery Tour: Gray, Lilac & Elephant Theme

One part of pregnancy and preparing for baby that I found the most enjoyable (amid all of the nausea, swelling and other less joyous parts of pregnancy) was planning out what the nursery would look like. As a first time mama, I wanted to create a comforting and homey space to bring my little bundle of joy home to. I thoroughly enjoyed pouring over blog posts and youtube tour videos and finding inspiration for my own nursery. I thought I would share our nursery favorites with you, in case you enjoy the planning process as much as this Type A Mama does. I have always been a huge fan of the…
