My Favorite Baby & Toddler Skincare Products for Dry, Sensitive Skin

Both myself and my children have been blessed with sensitive (and very pale) skin. On top of that my son has Eczema that pops up every now and then. I’ve found myself experimenting into the best products that won’t produce an angry red rash after use. I wanted to share some of our favorites so that hopefully you can find something that works well for your family without a ton of testing and wasted $$$. Of course, everyone is different, but these are the products that have worked well for us.

Our Favorite Lotions:

I have have to say that of every lotion we have tried, Tubby Todd’s Lotions are my absolute favorite. Although they can be pricey. If you are in the midst of a bad Eczema battle or fighting very dry skin, I can’t recommend them enough. I’ve read review after review about their products helping others with Eczema, and it cleared my son’s right up when he was a baby. My very favorite is the All Over Ointment, it is fragrance free, absorbs well without feeling greasy, and it does an amazing job at moisturizing. After a few uses of this and my son’s dry itchy red Eczema patches simply disappear.

Our other favorite lotion from Tubby Todd is the Dream Cream. This is more of an everyday lotion as it is easier to dispense in the squeeze bottle instead of the jar the All Over Ointment. It is still very rich and creamy (I actually find the texture a bit thicker than the all over ointment), and it has a very subtle scent of shea and citrus.

Another excellent contender that I think is on par with Tubby Todd, at a slightly lower cost is the Natural Coconut Oil Based Whipped Baby Cream by Bubbsi. We’ve been testing out several of their products recently, and have come to really loved them. Especially when all paired together, they are super effective at moisturizing and preventing dry itchy skin.

Since Tubby Todd is fairly pricey, we sometimes use other less expensive lotions if we aren’t in the middle of a flare-up (especially during the hot humid NC summers). We like CeraVe Moisturizing Baby Lotion as CeraVe Baby Healing Ointment as cheaper alternatives.

Our Favorite Body Wash

Bubbsi Shampoo & Body Wash

We recently tested out a body wash that completely changed my opinion on this one: the Bubbsi Coconut Oil Shampoo & Body Wash. Before finding Bubbsi’s body wash, I had been pretty disappointed with the options. Nothing seemed to really make much of an improvement in moisturizing my children’s skin. Sure, some products were more irritating than others, and I certainly avoided those.

However, Bubbsi completely changed my tune on moisturizing body washes….they do exist! After just one bath, I could see a big improvement in my son’s skin softness and it was absolutely more moisturized. Coconut Oil is definitely one of the magic ingredients that plays a role, but the wash is also very thick and not very soapy or sudsy. I think all of those elements work together to make an amazing cleanser that also moisturizes amazingly. All of that, plus it comes in an adorable squeezy bottle shaped like a pid that your kiddos will love to play with. And you can purchase refill bottles. Seriously, I can’t sing the praises of this body wash enough! Definitely give Bubbsi a shot!

Our Favorite Baby Sunscreen

So many sunscreens are filled with nasty ingredients that have been shown to be carcinogenic (especially when exposed to UV rays). So I usually rely on the Environmental Working Group Website to double-check the safety of ingredients in sunscreen. Many sunscreens are hard to rub in or have an awful scent.

After much experimentation, our favorite by far for our kiddos is La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Milk Body & Face Sunscreen Lotion Broad. It really does melt into your skin…no need to spend all that precious time rubbing and rubbing it in like so many mineral sunscreens. Seriously, what 2 year old will stay still lon enough to let you rub that sunscreen in? I use it myself and for my kiddos. It’s free of Oxybenzone & Octinoxate. It’s not oily or greasy, so it doesn’t cause breakouts.

Another great option is Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Zinc Oxide Mineral Sunscreen Lotion for Sensitive Skin. It rubs in easily for a mineral sunscreen, doesn’t have a cloying odor and it has a great rating on EWG.

Our Favorite Diaper Rash Cream

If you are looking for a clean option that gets the job done, I have to recommend that you try out Tubby Todd’s Sweet Cheeks Diaper Rash Cream. It is a fragrance free thick paste that does a great job sealing out moisture to help with treating and preventing diaper rash. This is hands-down the best diaper rash cream that we have used. Another fantastic alternative that I used a lot with my first baby is the tried and true Triple Paste Medicated Ointment. I bought this in the huge tub-like jars and always kept some on hand.

Our Favorite Petroleum Jelly Replacement (Moisture Barrier)

Bubbsi Coconut Oil Balm

Vaseline or petroleum jelly is a by-product of oil refinement, and not eco-friendly at all. Enter Bubbsi’s Coconut Oil Balm. It’s natural, safe and based on coconut oil instead of being a byproduct of oil refinement. I love to use this stuff of chapped lips, red itchy patches or dry scaly elbows and ankles. It seals in the moisture really well and smells great. I’ll often apply this on top of regular lotion as a way to lock in the moisture and create a barrier.
