Yumi Food Review

If you’re a busy working mom or a stay at home mom with multiple children, making your own baby food can be a hassle that you don’t always have the time to deal with. Of course, we all want our growing babies to have the best healthy options even when we are short on time.

To meet that need, a slew of clean organic baby food delivery services have cropped up over the past several years. One of the most popular is Yumi. But is it any good and is it worth the cost?

Yumi Cost

First things first, no matter how you slice it, it is always going to be cheaper to make your own baby food. So if you are on a tight budget or not willing to splurge on the convenience, this won’t be a good option for you. Depending on the plan you select, meals starts from $5.00 per meal. The pricing also varies by stage, and by the amount you buy (the more that you buy, the bigger your discount).

If you are seeking convenience, a delivery service can be a great option for healthy organic baby food. Store bought baby foods are often filled with added sugars, stabilizers and are highly processed. Yumi is organic, made with real ingredients, with no added sugar or preservatives. Also, the meals are planned around your child’s developmental milestones and needs which is an awesome plus!

We all know how important nutrition is, and growing research indicates that what children eat in their first 1000 days of life are key for development. Choosing Yumi can help you ensure you are meeting those needs.

Yumi Baby Food Offerings

Depending on the age and developmental readiness of your child, Yumi offers 5 stages ranging from smooth purees to finger foods.

  • Stage 1 – single ingredient smooth purees (4-6 months)
  • Stage 2 – multi-ingredient smooth purees (7+ months)
  • Stage 3 – multi-ingredient chunky purees (9+ months)
  • Stage 4 – chunky mix of multiple ingredients (10+ months)
  • Finger foods – nutrient-dense bite-size foods that your baby can self-feed.

You will be able to customize the options for each week, but Yumi will offer a suggested menu based on which meals support your growing babies nutritional needs. The foods are all made fresh each week and the selection will vary based on seasonal availability. Before you purchase, you can see previews of the types of foods they currently have available and what is coming in the next few weeks to get a feel for what to expect.

They definitely offer more variety (Ratatouille, Japanese Sweet Potatoes, Zucchini) in terms of ingredients than many other baby foods we have tried, but they also have the common staples you would expect to see (like pears, mangoes, apples and carrots).

The food is delivered in an insulated box kept cool with large ice packs. The baby food comes in plastic jars with lids that allow you to keep track of when the jar was opened. The food lasts a week, and it must be refrigerated. As with all baby food, the contents of a jar should be consumed within 24 hours of opening.

Yumi Food Review

So how did our little one like the actual food? Well some of the options, he loved and others he spit out and refused to eat. To be honest, that is to be expected with any baby and any new foods being introduced. I felt great about the variety we were able to offer him through Yumi (even if he didn’t appreciate all of it). We had more luck with the traditional options than some of the more adventurous offerings. I also LOVED knowing that I was giving him healthy, real food that wasn’t laden with sugar and preservatives. I could opt for convenience without feeling guilty about it!

I absolutely loved the packaging. The little jars were adorable, well-made, and I saved several of them to reuse for other things (like little paint jars for my toddler). The food was very cold when I received it and all was freshly made as promised as far as I could ascertain.

Overall, it was nice to have a convenient healthy option to give my son when I was too busy to make something fresh for him. I continued to order one occasion (you can skip weeks so no pressure to order every single week) when I needed to have healthy baby food options on hand. If you are looking for convenient healthy baby food, I would definitely recommend giving Yumi a try.

Thanks for stopping by! If you have tried Yumi, please share your thoughts and experience in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.
